Today's businesses face a myriad of regulations from all levels of government, with the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry estimating regulation and compliance costs Australia $86 billion a year - or 10 % of gross domestic product. In 2006, Business SA's Blueprint for South Australia's Future called on the State Government to reduce the South Australian regulatory burden by 25% by July 2008. This submission expands on the issues raised in the Blueprint, identifying specific concerns held by South Australian businesses in areas such as taxation, the environment, development and occupational health and safety (OHS). It also looks at the different models that governments around the world have implemented as well as making recommendations to reduce the levels of red tape in South Australia.
