This report falls into three parts. The first reviews the gendered nature of casual work in Australia over the past decade, focusing on analysis of unpublished data. The picture of rising casual employment is obvious. The second part analyses the experience of casual work, going beneath the general quantitative data to consider the lived experience of casual work, and its implications for casual employees, their households and their communities. Finally, in section three, the report considers some policy options that might be considered at state level.
