The most recent ABS figures tell us that 22.6% of our State's population has a disability, with almost 98,000 having a profound or severe disability. What's more, the vast majority of people with disabilities now live throughout the community, including in our regions. They and their families have the expectation that they should be treated fairly and equally and it is incumbent upon us to continually ask the question: how can we provide better services for them?
The Disability Services Regional Plans 2005-2007 are three year local visions for the delivery of services to people with disability services within the three regions. Each comprises a collective commitment of stakeholders within the particular region to ensure people with a disability and their families and carers have access to a range of specialist and generic services, and initiatives that in turn, produce better services for people in the community.
