Paid maternity leave will mean that women and their families will be better able to juggle the often conflicting demands of work and family during the first few months after childbirth.
Australia is yet to catch up with other parts of the world on this policy issue. This discussion paper focuses on various aspects of the topic including an overview of current maternity leave arrangements and ideas around an alternative scheme.
