This report examines BreastScreen SA's impact over the 20 years from 1 January 1989 to 31 December 2008, using trend data for 1989 to 2004, in terms of the effectiveness of the program in achieving its key aims, and other health impacts for South Australia resulting from the program.
The report shows that the program has maintained high cancer detection rates and has contributed to substantial improvements in the breast cancer survival rates of women in South Australia.
In addition, the report highlights future challenges, such as the increased demand for services due to an ageing population and workforce.
