Following a review of the Northern Forests in 1995 the South Australian Government determined that the Northern Forests would be managed as Community Forests. The Northern Forests deliver an important commercial function for the local economy and contribute to ForestrySA revenue. This is a plan for the ForestrySA forest reserves in the Mid North of South Australia which are referred to throughout this document as the Northern Forests. The plan describes the management context and planning framework, and provides a summary of the natural, built and heritage values, community use and issues that impact on the management of the Northern Forests. It addresses the main land uses including plantation forestry, conservation, recreation and the significant historical and heritage aspects of the forest reserves.

Input is now being sought from community and volunteer groups, adjoining landholders, indigenous groups, government agencies and local government that may seek to add value to the draft plan.

The plan can be downloaded at http://www.forestry.sa.gov.au/enviro.stm
