South Australia: Our Health and Health Services 2008 is the first publication to provide a comprehensive picture of the health status of South Australians.

The health of South Australians generally is very good. Life expectancy is a universally accepted indicator of health status. Australia has the fourth highest life expectancy of all OECD countries. The average life expectancy for males in South Australia is 78.1 years, marginally below the Australian average of 78.5 years
and the average life expectancy for females in South Australia is 83.4 years, slightly above the national average of 83.3 years. The median age at death for males and females in South Australia is 77.5 years and 83.6 years respectively; the highest of all states and territories in Australia.
