During the Children in State Care Commission of Inquiry, which started in November 2004, 792 people told the Inquiry that they were victims of child sexual abuse while living in South Australia. The Inquiry had to determine how many of these were children in State care when the alleged abuse occurred. Based on the evidence of the alleged victims who came forward to the Inquiry, it is apparent that in the past 65 years the State has failed to protect some of the children in its care from sexual abuse.
