Counting the Homeless - Adelaide 2007

Nancy Rogers & Arthur Hume, Department for Families and Communities
Department for Families and Communities, Government of South Australia

This project aims to provide a point-of-time count of the numbers of homeless people, particularly those sleeping rough, in the Adelaide CBD, and also provide some details about nature and length of homelessness.

The project consists of a 'count' across the Adelaide CBD on a given day. Collectors, drawn from staff at homelessness services, interview homeless people and fill out a short form which identifies current accommodation and recent housing history.

It is intended the Count will be conducted twice a year. This will enable the gathering of longitudinal data and mapping of trends over time.

In 2007 counts were done in June and in August.
