Becoming Socially Responsible
Friday, 16 July 2004
Over recent years governments have increasingly privatised what have traditionally been public products and services. The school of International Business research into corporate social responsibility has determined that this has lead to community expectation that businesses will become more accountable, both socially and environmentally. Three key aspects of corporate responsibility have been identified; mandatory obeying of laws, regulations and standards; contribution to the community through corporate citizenship initiatives; and economic social and environmental accountability. Conclusions drawn from the research include the importance of ensuring that social responsibility starts at the Chairman and Managing Director level of an organisation. July 13, 2004
