CONSTRUCTION on the footbridge across the Torrens has reached the halfway mark and Premier Jay Weatherill has confirmed it will be usable but not "beautiful" in time for the Ashes test match.
An animation released today shows how it will be the centrepiece of the revitalised precinct, providing a bustling thoroughfare.
Mr Weatherill said all the foundation work was complete and the project would now turn to assembling the glazed exterior and granite decking.
"On the last day of football at Footy Park we are now entering a new era ... so today we get a glimpse of what it will be like for those first spectators that start walking across the bridge to go to the first (football) match at Adelaide Oval at the beginning of next season," he said.
"People will be able to walk across the bridge (for the Ashes) but there will be a lot of finishing of the bridge in terms of its outward appearance.
"The glass cladding, which is a really beautiful finish, will take some time. That will be completed for the first football match."
