Globalisation and Social Theory: Rights, Cosmopolitanism, and the Public Sphere.
Seminars are on the 4, 6, 11 and 13 March from 2-5pm.
Through a series of lectures, seminars and workshops conducted by Bryan Turner the masterclass will explore the major weaknesses of contemporary theories of globalization and some of the major social and political issues that contront contemporary societies. These will include religious fundamentalism, migration, multiculturalism, citizenship, youth cultures, low intensity conflicts and human rights. The lectures will draw upon Turner's recent experiences of conducting and supervising research in Asia, specifically Southeast Asia, and attempt to consider Australia's place in these regional and global developments. This seminar series is open to students, academics and interested members of the public as either an assessed or non assessed topic.
