This one-day symposium will begin to address issues of governance, research and teaching within the contemporary university in Australia. It will hopefully provide a forum within which a critical, creative and reflexive articulation of key issues facing university staff can occur.
Issues that will be addressed include: - a daily regime of questionable hyperactivity - the promotional university - an increasingly corporate culture - emails, meetings, audits and reviews - a dominance of a certain kind of `managerial' discourse - the tensions between collegial, bureaucratic and entrepreneurial regimes - ethics and links with the wider community - commercial or non-commercial - managerial transparency and accountability - democratic decision making.
