Domestic Violence & Rape: Your Role?

Friday, 29 April 2005, 9:00 am to 4:25 pm
Costs range from $66 - $154 for the day.
Adelaide Convention Centre, North Terrace, Adelaide

Violence & Abuse are issues that can take a generation or two to heal. The ABS reports that Australia currently has 31,000 children living in grandparent families. The reasons for this situation are drug & alcohol addiction, family violence, parental mental illness, marriage breakdown, death of a parent, child physical or sexual abuse, neglect and parent incarceration (Glenys Haalebos, 2004-5, in Cite summer magazine, Curtin University of Technology). As a starting point we are focussing on women during pregnancy who have contact with their health providers.

Can you identify a woman who may need your help?

This conference will help you to identify some of the women who may require your help to make a difference in their lives and that of their children.
Speakers include
Ms Fiona Dillon - a student midwife's experience with a case of domestic violence.
Ms tracey Sloan - how Women's Health Statewide responds to issues of domestic violence.
Ms Claudia Schiek - How Yarrow Place responds to recent adult sexual assault.
Mr Patrick O'Leary - Understanding masculinity and the perpetration of violence against women & children.
Dr Mary Heath - Eliminating 'the second rape' (in court): toward a constructive role for the law
Chaired by Ms Vanessa Swan, Director of Yarrow Place.
