Domestic violence is often a factor in homicides and is particularly significant in the deaths of many women and children. These homicides may be preventable and recent action in some Australian states has led to the establishment of Domestic Violence Death Review teams, boards or panels (NSW and Victoria). These Reviews will conduct multi-disciplinary examinations of a number of such deaths over a defined time period to identify common traits, trends and missed opportunities for intervention. This will lead to improved responses to domestic and family violence.
The forum will bring together key representatives from all the significant agencies/services involved in SA to discuss the processes of such reviews, their capacity to prevent deaths, how they differ from coronial enquiries and to address the strengths and limitations of current models.
Speaker include:
Betty Green, Acting Coordinator, Liverpool Women's Health Centre
Chris Attmore, Policy Officer, Federation of Community Legal Centres.
