The Southgate Journal Club is an initiative of the Southgate Institute to engage researchers and bring them together to discuss issues relevant to cross-disciplinary research and methodology.

This meeting will start with a light lunch at 12.15pm followed by facilitated discussions of 2 papers:

  • Mapping the determinants of health inequalities in social space: can Bourdieu help us? by Anthony C. Gatrell, Jennie Popay, Carol Thomas. Discussion facilitated by: Dr Dominic Keuskamp, Research Fellow, Southgate Institute for Health, Society & Equity.

  • The politics of suffering: Indigenous policy in Australia since the 1970s by Peter Sutton. Discussion facilitated by: Associate Professor Eileen Willis, Head, Social Health Sciences.

    The 2 readings and Professor Willis' one page reading guide to Peter Sutton's article are available from Rama Ramanathan (contact details below). Please read them and come prepared for an exciting and intellectual discussion.
