The International Society for the Study of Behavioural Development, in conjunction with the Australasian Human Development Association, is organizing a multi-disciplinary workshop on the implications for human development of movement by individuals and populations within the Asia Pacific region.
Various forms of migration will be considered, including:
Movement across national boundaries: (1) forced migration (e.g. refugees and asylum seekers), (2) temporary migration (e.g. overseas students and guest workers) and (3) voluntary migration (e.g. to countries with a high level economic development).
Movement within national boundaries: (1) urban drift due to resources boom, (2) displacement due to infrastructure projects or natural disasters, and (3) changes in place of living by the elderly and retired.
Consequences of these movements, including but not limited to: greater cultural diversity; depopulation of rural areas; geographic separation between generations; increasingly marginalized populations; experiences of dislocation, loss and discrimination; disrupted schooling and intergenerational conflict.
Call for poster presenters with research in the field of refugee and migrant support and issues need to be finalised by 16 June 2009.
