The International Society for the Study of Behavioural Development, in conjunction with the Australasian Human Development Association, is organizing a multi-disciplinary workshop on the implications for human development of movement by individuals and populations within the Asia Pacific region.

Various forms of migration will be considered, including:

  • Movement across national boundaries: (1) forced migration (e.g. refugees and asylum seekers), (2) temporary migration (e.g. overseas students and guest workers) and (3) voluntary migration (e.g. to countries with a high level economic development).

  • Movement within national boundaries: (1) urban drift due to resources boom, (2) displacement due to infrastructure projects or natural disasters, and (3) changes in place of living by the elderly and retired.

  • Consequences of these movements, including but not limited to: greater cultural diversity; depopulation of rural areas; geographic separation between generations; increasingly marginalized populations; experiences of dislocation, loss and discrimination; disrupted schooling and intergenerational conflict.

Call for poster presenters with research in the field of refugee and migrant support and issues need to be finalised by 16 June 2009.
