Anti-social behaviour by military personnel is consistently reported in Austrealian media. The most recent incidents in memory are the Ku Klux Klan photograph at 1 RAR, and the kitten torturers, both from Lavarack Barracks, Townsville. When Army leaders and politicians comment upon such actions they agree they are deplorable but consider them the wayward practices of a 'few bad apples'.
This seminar argues this behaviour is a structured part of military culture and life and outlines the training processes which are used to construct the Australian soldier. Ben Wadham draws upon his experience as an ex-Infantry soldier and Military Police Officer in the Australian Regular Army.
